In an order dating from 24 February 2020, India’s Food Safety and Standard Authority (FSSI) stated that the date of manufacture of the product and before which it should be consumed should be indicated on unpackaged/loose sweets containers in shops.
The regulation came into force on 1 June 2020. Cases of stalled/expired sweets have been sold, which pose possible health dangers, noted the FSSAI in its decision.

Most individuals shop online more often in the context of restrictions on movement caused by the new pandemic of coronavirus (COVID-19). I tried to order Rasgulla one day through one of the restaurant aggregates, but none of the mobile websites or apps stated the best before.
The FSSAI regulation only applies to marking containers, but how can you check that the food material you purchase at a time when people avoid physical shops is safe for consumption?
The FSSAI subsequently announced that it would not be allowed into the Indian market to import foods with fewer than 60 percent of shelf life.
TOI claimed that thousands of consumers were required to divulge manufacture and expiry dates of the food packed sold on their factories on the citizens’ participation platform, which required the e-commerce sites.
FSSAI started an online training module for food handlers during COVID-19 under their flagship FoSTaC program with the aim of ensuring the adoption of stringent food safety measures by food enterprises across the country.
To date, around 233,000 persons under the program were taught. Furthermore, a guideline note entitled “Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Pandemic Food Hygiene and Security Guidelines for Food Business was released and made publicly accessible. This document covers good practice/guidance for food handlers to maintain high personal hygiene standards, safe food procedures, apply the GHP and GMP methods in accordance with Schedule 4 of the FSS Act and ensure the appropriate social distancing measures.
In addition, FSSAI provided updated guides covering features of consistent protocols and guidance for various units including food service facilities and restaurants. FSSAI published the Guidelines.
A specific COVID-19 page is built on the FSSAI Website which includes various communication collateral, guidance, and press releases, together with important notifications, guidelines, and orders from time to time issued by FSSAI.
Most of us choose to eat or have our food from food items delivered. A great many individuals opt to dine for enjoyment thanks to the appearance of several international cuisines and a big number of fine restaurants and world-class restaurants offering both diversity and high-quality food. Given the regularity with which they are dining these days, it is also necessary to ensure that consumers are safe and hygienic to eat no matter where they are eating.
